Farmer Johnson's Daughter

Well the first frost has come and gone here in Myrtle!  Fall can definitely be seen now.  The trees are starting to turn, painting our landscape with beautiful colors.  The garden has been put to rest and sowed with winter wheat.

There is always a part of me that loves fall; the nip of cold in the air, pumpkins, hayrides, roasting hot dogs and marshmallows over an open fire.  Another part is dreading the long winter that is right around the corner.

I wanted to tell you about our daughter.  She is an amazing young woman.  Amber is pursuing her master's degree in opera in New York, NY. Yes, she grew up here on the farm and loves all the animals.  She is very much a tomboy assisting with difficult deliveries and bottle feeding orphaned critters.  Music has always been a big part of her life.  She grew up singing in church and school events.

She went into college very determined and very focused on music.  Coming from a small rural school, it soon became apparent that she was behind most of the other students.  She just dug in even harder and pushed through her freshman year soaking in everything she could.  By her sophomore year she had caught up with the others and begin excelling!

Even though she is a long ways away and living a very urban life right now; we know she will always carry with her life lessons learned here on a small farm in the Midwest.  She hopes to encourage other young people to follow their dreams and believe in themselves....even if they come from a small, rural area.  Farm kids have a great work ethic and accomplish many great things!
